Be Proactive If You’re A Victim Of Criminal ID Theft

#16 – BE PROACTIVE IF YOU’RE A VICTIM OF CRIMINAL ID THEFT

If you are accused of a crime you did not commit because the real criminal used your identity, the first step you should take is to contact the police department that originally arrested the identity thief. Explain the situation to them in person if possible, and file an impersonation report.

You may also need to clear your name in the court records, and you may need the help of an attorney. For more information, visit www.privacyrights.org.
